Our Custom Award Design Process
Our team of gifted artists and account managers will work closely with your organization throughout the design process to ensure that your custom awards are a perfect match for your needs.
While each custom award project varies according to the specific requirements and parameters of that design, the process to create your custom awards generally incorporates the following steps:
Step 1: Discovery & Needs Assessment
The team assigned to your project will work with you to understand your needs and requirements, including design objectives, branding standards, material preferences, cost targets, and production deadlines.
Step 2: Ideation & Rough Concepts
Some of our customers have a very concrete idea of what they want, and, in some cases, even have a detailed specification they have developed. In many cases, however, the design idea is more conceptual and generalized, so we will develop a set of rough sketches that cover a variety of different possible design concepts in order to help hone in on a specific design direction that meets your needs.
Step 3: Detailed Concept
Once we have finalized a design concept, and have your approval to move forward, we will create a detailed graphical mockup that illustrates, as close as possible in two-dimensional form, what your final custom award will look like. For large, multi-unit custom award orders, we can also create a physical prototype before moving into final production.
Step 4: Production
Once you have signed off on the detailed concept, we will begin producing your custom awards. The production process will vary according to the type of awards that are being produced. Types of Custom Awards: A Variety of Options to Meet Your Needs
Custom Sculpture Awards
Custom sculpture awards are the most classic form of custom award that we produce. The possible shapes and sizes for these sculpture awards are almost limitless – we have produced sculptures as small as a few inches high, all the way through monumental sculptures that are over 30 feet tall. These awards are created using traditional sculpting processes that have existed for ages. Almost all of custom sculpture awards are created from either bronze or pewter. Our bronze sculpture awards are cast using the lost wax casting process, and can feature a variety of finish options, including a high polish finish, a patina finish in almost any conceivable color and pattern, or some combination of both. Our pewter sculpture awards employ a centrifugal casting process, and can also support a number of different finishes, including a natural brushed pewter finish, silver or gold plating, or a variety of painted textures. Custom Fabricated Awards
We can fabricate custom awards using a variety of materials, including metal, wood, glass, plastic, etc. Unlike custom sculpture awards, which are cast, fabricated awards are hand-produced one award at a time. Fabricated awards generally have a shorter lead time than sculpture awards, as they do not require a model, mold, or the casting process. One of the more common type of fabricated awards we create are our custom-cut metal awards, in which we use a high-precision laser to cut out custom images from large sheets of high-quality steel. We also have talented artisans skilled in woodworking, wood carving, glassblowing, pottery, and a broad spectrum of other materials.

Custom Medallions
Custom medallions are one of our more affordable custom award options in terms of per-unit price. Custom medallions can be created in a variety of customized shapes and sizes. These medallions also feature custom 3D reliefs on their surface with images and text created specific to your needs. Finally, we offer a variety of display and presentation options for these medallions, including ribbons, bases, plaques, and cups. Custom Crystal Awards
Custom crystal awards generally have the lowest overall cost, and shortest lead-time, of any of our custom award options. These crystal awards usually feature a geometric block of crystal with custom engraving. These blocks come in a variety of different pre-cut polyhedral shapes. Alternatively, custom shapes can be cut, although this option does increase the cost and lead-time required to create these awards. The custom engraving for these awards can take two forms: 1) a 2D image engraved either on the surface of the award, or, alternatively, engraved inside the body of the award; or 2) a 3D image engraved inside the body of the award. The process to engrave the image inside the crystal is usually referred to as “sub-surface engraving”, and the net effect is that the object appears to be “floating” inside of the crystal block. Custom Plaques
Bennett Awards can create a variety of unique, custom awards based on plaques. While almost every award supplier offers plaques, Bennett Awards focuses on creating unique, custom plaques that are differentiated from the vanilla plaques available in the market. We can create distinctive custom plaques via customization across a number of different dimensions, including creating them in custom materials, shapes, colors, and sizes; combining them with additional award elements, such as custom medallions; adding bases, so the plaques can be displayed on a desk or table; applying customized laser-engraving into the plague itself; and incorporating a sculpture award into the plaque to create a perpetual sculpture plaque.
